Men are from Mars and Woman are from Venus

Remember that book from the 90’s that talked about how different men and woman were in their communication style?

Well neuroscience has added to that understanding as well. Men’s and women’s brains are actually structurally and chemically different.  First structurally, research has shown that woman have a thicker corpus collosum.  That is the part of the brain that connects the hemispheres together.  This structural difference supports the idea that we have hypothesized for years that woman use both sides of their brains together better than men do.  Sorry guys but their brain is bigger, and they use more of it than we do.  That means that they understand things and attach the emotional feelings side of things more easily.  Where the male brain can really only process one aspect at time, like either logic or emotion, women’s brains appear to be set up to better understand both, together.  That could be why when my wife asks me how something logical makes me feel, it is like she is asking me to decode Einstein’s theory of relativity and I don’t know how to put it into words.  This structural difference is also possibly why men can do one seemingly mindless activity over and over again and be content, while women crave more constant change and multitasking.

The other difference that research has uncovered is that men’s brains run on dopamine and women’s brains run on serotonin.  This means that men are driven by reward like from thank you’s or monetary gain and women’s brains run on things that cause pleasure like compliments or something that makes them “feel good”.

So, on this Valentine’s Day, guys, make sure you tell her she looks nice, or that you like how she helps you and makes you better! And girls say thank you to them for something they have done for you or for working to support the family!
