Top-Down and Bottom-Up Therapy: Exploring the Synergy of NeuroEmotional Technique (NET) and Chiropractic for Holistic Healing

NeuroEmotional Technique, or NET, is a mind-body approach that facilitates nervous system function to help release emotional blockages. The doctor uses muscle testing to identify emotional experiences that need to be processed without re-traumatizing the patient. Once identified, the doctor uses a combination of physical and cognitive techniques to help release these emotional blockages from an area of the body.  NET has been shown to be beneficial for the symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other conditions.  NET is different from common treatment of mental health conditions in that the patient is not required to recount their experience to the practitioner.  The patient can use visualization and focused attention to process through the emotional stressor found by the practitioner.

Chiropractic has been shown to be effective in treating a range of physical conditions, including back pain, headaches, and neck pain.  Chiropractic, while being a more physical treatment modality, can access similar brain areas that deal with emotional regulation and processing.  The same areas that provide balance and coordination to the body also provide balance and coordination to thoughts and emotions. Through re-alignment of the spine, brain areas that process and perceive emotion are activated and become more balanced in function. It is based on the idea that misalignments in the spine can cause physical and emotional symptoms. Through manual techniques, manipulation of the spine, as well as other joints in the body, proper function can be restored to both the emotional and physical health of the patient.

Even though NET and Chiropractic differ in their approaches, both compliment each other for the ultimate outcome for the patient. While Chiropractic is an incredible resource alone for the re-alignment of the body and it’s function, coupling this with movement therapies and modalities help to facilitate the treatments noted above.

In summary, practitioners at BOI take pride in their dual approach of top-down and bottom-up therapy.  NET utilizes a bottom-up approach to allow for resolution of past traumatic stress through the patient’s own ability to reprocess past traumatic events. Chiropractic utilizes a top-down approach by stimulating brain areas that will allow for better resilience and ultimately better outcomes for patients who experience physical and emotional mis-alignment that can be felt as pain, pressure, imbalance, or a myriad of other symptoms. Each individual has individual neurology and we tailor our treatment to you.
